'Oomakuyil Padumbol' to convey a social message
At a time when movies with action sequences and item songs are scorching the screens, director Siddique Chendamangaloor's Oomakuyil Padumbol stands apart, but not without challenges.
"Today's directors are afraid to take movies with a social message as they fear rejection. Many directors talk in length about taking movies which will change the face of society but no one is ready to take a risk. While taking Oomakuyil Padumbol, I had to face enormous challenges. No big actors except for Shankar were willing to join the project," says debutant director Siddique.
His movie revolves around the psychological trauma which Rima a bright student has to face after shifting from Malayalam medium school to an English medium school.
Siddique who penned the story and screenplay of the film says he took one year to make the film after talking to parents, teachers, doctors, counselors and principals.
"The movie is not a jab on English medium schools. It is an eye-opener to the fact that to pursue an MBBS Degree or an engineering degree we do not require an English medium education. It is a message to parents that Malayalam medium is as effective in generating toppers as the English medium."
